Anniversary the 6th / Anniversary the 10th

My husband and I dated for 4 years before we got married, nearly to the day. The awesome part of this? Easy math. The only downside? When we come up on our anniversary, people will inevitably ask what number. And I will inevitably mangle some version of "Six. Well, married for six, but together for 10, we dated for 4 years first..." At which point most people start looking at me like I have a second head.

But those four years matter. Those were the years when we built our relationship, learned who we were as a couple and who we were as individuals. We learned to fight fairly, to communicate.

All of which to say, last weekend we celebrated our anniversary. Our 6-years-married-10-years-together anniversary. It was lovely.

We kicked things off with an afternoon showing of Rock of Ages.

Rock of Ages

The show was great fun. The plot was campy but the on stage band was impressive--as was the singing. The show is set to 80's hits, which (unfortunately) meant a lot of the songs went straight over my head. (I did not get introduced to pop music until the 1999/2000 time frame). I recognized about half the songs and it would have been more fun if I'd known them all. I can see the appeal though, a musical made with songs from the 90's would probably win me over completely. The hubby "got" a lot more of the songs than I did, but we both enjoyed it. : )

After the show, we had a bit of time to kill so we came home and exchanged gifts. I bought the hubby an awesome mug and some tea to go in it (neither of which I apparently took a picture of) and a steel flower. The flowers are a bit of a "thing". Each year I buy him one made from whatever that year's traditional gift is. I figure one day we're going to have one hell of a bouquet. : )

Anniversary Gifts

He bought me some gorgeous earrings. He picked these out on his own and I absolutely love them!

Pretty New Earrings!

By the time we finished opening gifts, it was time for dinner. We headed out to one of the fancier restaurants in town where we enjoyed a fabulous meal and complementary champagne!

Happy Hubby-Edit

All in all it was a wonderful way to spend time with my love and reflect on where we've been and where we are going. : )

  1. Congrats! =) That steel flower is pretty fab. So...what will you do about the year the traditional gift is something like clocks? A clock flower?

  3. CM--There are actually two lists, one traditional, one modern. The modern one has stuff like clocks and furniture, the traditional one just lists materials! : ) The problem is that the traditional list stops having something for each year after 15 years, it starts going to just big milestones after that. But, we'll cross that bridge when we get there. : )
