Quotables # 4

Quotables

Today's quote is the very essence of engineering. Next time you are bored, pick the average object around you and try to figure out how it's made. No, really made. What material, texture, finish? What components? How do they all fit in the space? Did one thing have to tuck under another? How do they manufacture it? Assemble it? Inspect it? Take it apart for repairs? Now imagine working the other way, starting with a blank sheet of paper. Think about what questions you would have to ask, what details would have to be considered. The hundreds of little decisions that, all added up, give you the final product. That's what we do.

"Everything is vague to a degree you do not realize till you have tried to make it precise."
--Bertrand Russell
