Furniture Arranging

New Furniture!

The hubby and I took advantage of the long weekend last weekend to rearrange our new furniture. We started in the living room. The picture above shows the view from the "study", looking into the living room. You can see the sunroom in the back.

The one below is looking back into the study, from about 2/3 of the way through the room and shows the very pink couch that was once at a sorority house. It needs covering. Badly. That pink squarish thing in the corner between the two couches is an ottoman.

We figure it acts as rolling seating or a spot for magazines. It needs some recovering, but is otherwise in good shape.

In the center of the room, looking towards the sunroom again.

It might seem a little odd to float the couches so much, but it makes for a nice conversational grouping and if is visually appealing as viewed from the kitchen. See?

That lamp is one of two matching lamps. We decided to forgo the baby blue lampshades they came with and will pick up new ones instead. I'm thinking we'll also spray paint them with a nice oil rubbed bronze. The shape is great, the shiny brass not so much.

The other lamp is on an end table, next to the pink couch. The right side of this picture shows the open passageway to the kitchen. In the foreground, you see our much beloved thrifted coffee table. We've had that thing for years and LOVE it. It fits the space nicely here. : )

Over by the fireplace we created a little reading area with the two captains chairs. There are another two matching chairs (without the armrests) which will find homes elsewhere in the house.

Between the chairs and the sofa area is a sofa table. I think it works perfectly to make the transition feel "finished".

All of the tables are of a set with that sofa table and we had more than we needed for the living room. So we pulled a couple into the sunroom.

The coffee table and side table just gleam in the sunlight. I never would have picked these out but I love them in here. : )

Another new addition to the sunroom is a cedar chest from my father's side of the family.

The latch is purely decorative, the top just lifts up. It was full of stuff when it got here but after some sorting (keep, goodwill, trash), we have a nice empty spot for blankets, board games, whatever. : )

We still need to arrange the upstairs furniture, but that's less pressing. Since it's (mostly) behind closed doors it doesn't cause my "clutter alarm" to go off. I'm also slowly but surely getting through the boxes of stuff. I've found some really interesting stuff--some awesome, some bizarre--which I want to share with you. Unfortunately, my time is cramped by the whole studying for the exam of doom thing, so I will have to be more turtle, less hare than I might like.

Love the little reading area in front of the fireplace. That's where you would be able to find me most of the winter evenings I'd think, reading while enjoying a cup of tea or hot cocao! And during the less cold times of the year I'd definitely take up shop in the sunroom!:)
