A Little of This, A Little of That

This post is a part of the Etsy Bloggers Street Team Blog Carnival. This week's topic is "Latest item you received/purchased from another Etsyian" and is being hosted by Yasmin over at her blog,A Pretty Rock.

My most recent Etsy purchase actually hasn't technically occurred yet. No money has exchanged hands. There is nothing to see in my "Purchases" section that would indicate it. But just the same, it has. That's because my most recent purchase is a custom order. A little of this and a little of that. And it should be ready soon! *squee*

I have long admired the work of kimwestad. However, when trying to select something to buy, I ran into a long familiar problem. Buying a single piece--a vase or bowl, was very affordable. But I don't really use vases and I don't really need just one bowl. On the other hand, buying an entire set of bowls was simply not in the budget at this moment. So I continued to stalk watch her shop for new additions, hoping for just the right gifting occasion or just the right need to justify buying one of her beautiful pieces.

At the same time, I have been looking for various desktop type items for my desk at work. Recently, I decided it would be nice to have a small cup to hold my pens and pencils.

But not just any cup. I didn't want the overdone and sloppy looking coffee mug. I wanted something beautiful and artsy. Something classy, that made a statement, without being too gaudy or too feminine. My cube is done in the classic gray color of cubes the world over and our office decor runs to the "messy means you are working" style of thinking. Which means something ostentatious or overly filly would look completely out of place.

So I browsed and I browsed and I browsed. And eventually it dawned on me to search "cups", instead of "pencil holder" or "pen holder". And that is when I saw one of kimwestad's cups and made the connection. Here was the perfect excuse to own one of her pieces! And I would truly use it and be able to enjoy it every day!

So I contacted Kim. Because, being me, I can never just select from what's offered. I always want a little of this and a little of that. In this case I wanted the honeysuckle design off the first cup but in the lovely chocolate brown color of the second cup.

Soon, Kim will be putting up a listing just for me and not long after that my little cup will be winging it's way to me. I can't wait to bring this in and set it on my desk. Not only will my pens, pencils, and dry erase markers now have a home but I will get to look at that gorgeous thing every day. Just thinking about it makes me smile. ^_^

Edited to add: I heard back from Kim today and my cup is ready! Here is her picture of the final product:

YAY!

You know you're going to have to post the finished product once you get it. It is going to be so beautiful! I can just see that now. :)

  2. The pencil cup is gorgeous! Now my little glass jar holding my writing utensils looks soooo plain. I'll have to remedy that.
